a) Lectures

b) Laboratory exercises It worth to be noted that lab courses mandatory.

c) Seminars, field studies

d) Dissertation, and

ε) Σtudent internship.

According to the article 14 of Law 3549/07 which is valid today the following statements are defined:

  • The maximum duration of undergraduate studies at IHU cannot exceed the minimum number of semesters required to obtain a degree, i.e. 4 years, increased by 100%, i.e. an additional 4 years, plus 1 year. Thus, the total period of studies cannot exceed 9 years. In exceptional cases, it is possible by decision of the General Assembly of IHU to extend the maximum duration of the applicant's studies up to (2) semesters.
  • Students have the right to interrupt their studies for as many semesters as they wish, with a written request to the Department Secretariat, and in any case not more than the minimum number of semesters required to obtain the degree. These semesters will not count towards the duration of study.
  • In case a student exceeds the maximum duration of studies provided by law, he/she is automatically withdrawn and officially informed about that in writing by the Department's Secretariat.

Registration

A student status is acquired by those who enroll in the course after admission, transfer or classification in accordance with the written provisions.

The registration of students in the Department of Accounting & Finance takes place in predefined times which are being announced by the Minitry of Education and IHU and communicated through the website of the Department.

Students who are enroled in IHU cannot be enroled at the same time at any other University in Greece.

Student are obliged to renew their registration every semester. Renewal is also done online.

Students who do not renew their registration for two consecutive or three non-consecutive semesters lose the possibility to continue their studies at IHU and they are automatically deleted from the Department's Registers. Requests for re-registration of those who have been withdrawn are considered in turn by the Department Council only for serious reasons.

Final year students who owe their thesis and internship do not need to renew their registration.

By renewing their registration, students also notify the Secretariat of the cources they wish to attend based on the Department's course timetable.

With this declaration, students draw up their individual program which can include courses from all semesters, beyond the standard one, as long as the following conditions are met:

a) the declared cources do not require the successful completion of other courses from previous semesters (chain courses) and b) the total number of declared courses should not exceed 34 hours. It is clarified that students of 8ου semester and above can register up to 45 hours and furthermore, course chains do not apply to them and therefore they can register any course, even if some of them require the successful completion of others.

Moreover, students can attend optional courses until the end of their studies. The optional courses are declared separately and independently of the electronic declaration of the courses by completing a paper declaration in the Department Secretariat's box. The time period for declaring the optional courses is the week following the electronic declaration of the courses. For the Department of Accounting & Finance, optional courses are all courses taught in other departments of IHU. It is emphasized that the grade of the optional courses is not taken into account when calculating the degree grade.

Undergraduate Thesis

Last semester students have to complete their thesis. The thesis topics are announced by the Department Secretariat at the beginning of each semester

Students register and undertake an undergraduate thesis subject after previously completing a special form available for this purpose from the Department's secretariat or found on the Department's website.

The thesis statement is valid for one semester. After the end of this semester -and since the thesis has not been delivered to the Department Secretariat- the student is obliged to request the renewal of the validity of the thesis for one more semester. THeses which are not completed after this extension are considered as not given.

A thesis topic can be jointly assigned to a group of up to two students with simultaneous assignment of the work.

After the completion of the thesis and its approval by the supervising professor, the thesis is submitted to the Secretariat (through the protocol office) and then a date is set for the evaluation of the thesis during which the thesis is presented by the student on a three-member committee of professors, in which teachers relevant to the subject under consideration participate. In any case, one of them is the supervising professor of the thesis.

The members of the committee decide by majority on the grade to be given to the examinee, and the relevant grade form is submitted to the Secretariat

The thesis grade is taken into consideration during the calculation of the final degree and corresponds to 20 ECTS.

In the Accounting & Finance department, theses are presented on the last ten days of the following month following their submission. The thesis presentation is open to all students who wish to attend.

Student internship

Students of our Department have to complete a 6-months internship.

The internship takes place after the end of the 7th semester and as long as the student meets the conditions provided by the relevant legislation.

The internship takes place in the public and/or private sector. As the Department of Accounting & Finance has important collaborations with foreign institutions, the opportunity is offered to the students of the Department to carry out their six-month internship in companies and/or institutions abroad, taking advantage of the relevant European programs.

The internship is paid and in recent years has also been subsidized by EPEAEK program.

Each department designates an internship committee, to which students apply to find an internship position.

During the internship, students are being supervised by a teacher of the department, who is appointed for this reason.

After the end of the six-months internship, students submit (through the protocol office) the relevant supporting documents to the Department's secretariat.
